ABA Services for Adults

Autism/Applied Behavioral Services

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. It can improve social, communication, and learning skills through positive reinforcement. The ultimate goal is to support the individual to become an active participant within his or her family, home and community.

At the Edinburg Center, Autism (ABA) Services are provided to adults aged 22 years and older, with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

A team consisting of a Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst / Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Behavior Technician provide services in the home or community. The team works closely with the individual and any caregivers to create and implement a Treatment Plan, based on the person’s current abilities. The Treatment Plan focuses on teaching socially appropriate behavior including adaptive and communication skills to replace and reduce behaviors that interfere with everyday life. The team assures that strategies used during direct instruction for each individual, are carried over throughout the day with all care providers.

Pre-Engagement/Coaching Services

The primary focus is on engagement, building rapport and overcoming barriers around independence in Adulthood. A coach’s first step is to connect with an individual who lives at home or independently. Once rapport is built, ‘coaching’ begins. This stage incorporates an individualized goal, using SMART objectives. Examples of goals include, but not limited to socializing, executive functioning, building and maintaining relationship and self-efficacy. This service requires “back room” supports and collaborations from the interdisciplinary team. Staff with at least a Bachelor’s degree provide these services.

College Navigation Services

These are services provided to college students to help them navigate campus resources, social situations and executive functioning challenges. This service is typically delivered on campus, but may be accessed remotely as needed. This is not tutoring or academic support. Staff with at least a Bachelor’s degree provide these services.

Both services require one to one staffing with either a Bachelor’s level staff (Behavior Technician) or Master’s Level staff (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) depending on what the individual needs and discussions between Department of Developmental Services and Provider.

Referrals are made through Department of Developmental Services
